Squarespace Code Changes

Squarespace is making updates to the dropdowns in the header, and we’re working on pushing updates out today.

They don’t give us access to these changes beforehand, so we can’t test until the changes have been made — a less than ideal scenario. But we’re working as quickly as we can to get these updates out.

Here’s what Squarespace said:

Squarespace FORUM

“In an effort to closer align with WCAG guidelines, anchor tags in website headers associated with dropdowns (with the class header-nav-folder-title) will be replaced with button elements using the same class. On Wednesday, October 8th, the class a.header-nav-folder-title will change to button.header-nav-folder-title

Additionally, the aria-label of folder dropdown has been removed in favor of relying on the button’s text content. These changes may affect any broad selectors targeting a or button elements on your site.”

Visually nothing will change, but the underlying code changes could effect some custom code or plugins you’ve added to your website.

Let me know in the comments if there are any other tutorials, code snippets, or plugins that you think might be effected. My goal is for this website to be the best technical resource for Squarespace designers and developers, and we can’t have broken code out there!
